Chair - Jeremy Myerson
Jeremy Myerson is Professor of Design Studies at the Royal College of Art, where he heads the InnovationRCA network for business and is co-director of the Helen Hamlyn Centre for Inclusive Design. He holds a Masters degree from the RCA and developed his interest in design as a journalist and editor working on a number of titles including Design, Creative Review and World Architecture. From 1986-89, he was Founding Editor of Design Week, the world's first weekly news magazine for designers and their clients – a publication that profoundly influenced how design firms in the UK operate. He is the author of a number of books on design, business and society, including The 21st Century Office, New Workplace New Culture, IDEO: Masters of Innovation and New Public Architecture. He has curated many national exhibitions, including Doing A Dyson at the Design Museum and Rewind: 40 years of Design and Advertising at the V&A.
John Corcoran
John spent his formative years as a design engineer and industrial chemist before pursuing a career in music and theatre design. In 1994 he set up Corcoran Design and formed Wire in 1997. Wire use print, film, product, service and new technologies to create a positive change in society. Clients include Nike, Nokia the NHS and the £1.5 billion Elephant and Castle Regeneration Programme. John has worked closely with the RCA and the RSA on delivering their inclusive design agenda. He is a leader on the Creative Skills Advisory Panel for the Design Council and is also the Communication Director for Sustainability Works. In May 2006, Wire won the DBA Inclusive Design Challenge for their new approach to inclusive communication design. In October 2006, John goes to Kyoto to lead a team of top Japanese industrial designers in the 48 hour Universal Design Challenge.
Malcolm Garrett
Malcolm Garrett is a creative director at Applied Information Group. He made his mark as founder of Assorted Images, working with Buzzcocks, Duran Duran, Culture Club and Simple Minds. His early collaborations with Peter Gabriel, and with interactive media pioneers Cogapp, fuelled an enduring passion for interactive design, which he explored with blue chip clients such as Barclays and Hewlett Packard, and cultural institutions from the Science Museum to Museum of Modern Art, New York. He recently designed ‘Icons – a portrait of England’ for Cogapp and Culture Online, and is creative director of dynamolondon.org. Malcolm is also a Royal Designer for Industry.
His focus is on making information accessible and engaging, with Dublin Bus and the Helen Hamlyn Trust’s schools programme, Open Futures, recent beneficiaries.
