The visit
designing the prison visit experience
There
are currently more than 83,000 prisoners in the UK. There are many different
pathways that address the risk of prisoner re-offending, but it generally
accepted that the more prisoners stay connected with the world outside
through partners, children or parents during their time in prison, the
less likely they are to re-offend.
What role can design play in addressing some of the complex issues associated with the experience of visiting in prisons? More broadly, how can design-led strategies support the maintenance of family ties, an important factor in reducing a prisoner's risk of re-offending?
