The Home Office is the government department responsible for leading the national effort to protect the public from terrorism, crime and anti-social behaviour and is responsible for keeping the UK safe from any threat to national security. The Office for Security and Counter Terrorism within the Home Office leads on counter-terrorism in the UK in particular and works with the police and security agencies to prevent any harm coming to the UK and its population.
Public protection is central to the Home Office's work in countering terrorism, cutting crime, providing effective policing, securing borders and protecting personal identity and it works with its partners and the public at local, national and international level to achieve this.
